Scenarios Released For Television Coverage of Tech-Marshall Game
Broadcast hinges on Chicago-Boston baseball game
October 7, 2005
BLACKSBURG - ESPN officials have given Virginia Tech the scenarios for
Saturday's football broadcast of the Virginia Tech-Marshall game. The game
will kick off at 12:03 p.m., regardless of what happens.
In Major League Baseball playoff action, if the Chicago White Sox beat the
Boston Red Sox this afternoon to end the series, Tech's game will be
broadcast on ESPN2. If the Red Sox win to force a game four, or Friday's
game is rained out, the game will be on ESPN360, an internet-only
broadcast available to Adelphia high-speed/broadband Internet customers
and Virginia Tech students on campus. That game is slated to begin today
at 4 p.m.
ESPN has told Virginia Tech officials there is no possibility of an ESPNU
broadcast under either of the scenarios.
From ESPN360's fact sheet:
• ESPN360 does not cost anything to users. Think of it like a cable
channel which is carried by some systems and not by others. If your system
carries it, you get access to its content for free. If not, then you do
not get it and you cannot get it by paying extra for it. That's how
ESPN360 works, only we are working with Internet Providers rather than
Cable/Satellite companies.
• ESPN360 is currently carried by the following carriers: Adelphia, Beld,
Bend, Charter St. Louis and Los Angeles, Frontier DSL, Grande, Knology,
Mediacom, Mid-Hudson, Spencer Municipal Utilities, Starstream
Communications, Sus-com and Us.
